Religious Activities Visa – Italy

Overview

The Religious Activities Visa is intended for individuals traveling to Italy for religious purposes, including participation in religious events, training, or assignments within religious institutions.

Eligibility

  • Clergy members, missionaries, or religious workers invited to carry out religious duties in Italy.
  • Individuals attending religious conferences, training, or special ceremonies.
  • Members of religious organizations or congregations assigned to a religious institution in Italy.

General requirements

  • Must provide an official letter from a religious organization confirming the purpose of the visit.
  • Must provide documentation proving religious qualifications or status within a religious community.
  • Proof of financial support during the stay in Italy, either from the religious organization or personal funds.

Processing Time

  • Minimum processing time: 15 calendar days
  • Extended processing time: Up to 45 days for Schengen Visa, up to 90 days for National Visa
  • Applications can be submitted up to 6 months before the travel date (9 months for seafarers)
  • Applications must be submitted at least 15 days before travel

Documents Required

General requirements

  • Completed visa application form
  • Valid passport – Must be valid for at least three months beyond the stay in Italy and have at least two blank pages
  • UK Residency: A UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
  • Recent passport-style photo – Must be full-frontal, white background, and not older than 6 months
  • Round-trip travel ticket reservation or proof of transportation

Specific requirements for religious applicants

  • Official letter from a UK religious organization confirming the applicant’s role, status, and purpose of travel.
  • Letter from the Italian religious institution specifying:
    • Purpose of the trip
    • Name and address of the organization in Italy
    • Duration of stay
    • Confirmation that the organization will cover living expenses and medical assistance (for long-term stays)
    • Official seal from the Vatican Secretariat of State or Apostolic Nunciature in the UK
  • Proof of religious qualifications or membership within a religious congregation.
  • Proof of financial support (if expenses are not fully covered by the Italian religious institution):
    • Personal bank statements
    • Sponsorship letter from the religious organization

Proof of Travel and accommodation

  • Proof of accommodation in Italy (hotel booking or confirmation from the religious institution providing lodging).
  • Comprehensive travel insurance issued in the UK or a Schengen country, covering:
    • Minimum €30,000 for medical expenses, hospitalization, and repatriation.
    • The entire duration of stay in Italy and the Schengen Area.
    • A confirmation letter from the insurance provider stating Schengen coverage.

For citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine – Birth certificate or consular declaration showing full names of both parents is required.

Important Notes

  • Visa applications with incomplete documents will not be accepted. If any required document is missing, the applicant must reschedule a new appointment.
  • Submission of all documents does not guarantee visa approval. The Consulate reserves the right to request additional documents or interviews.
  • Visa policies may change without prior notice. The Consulate has full authority to evaluate each application.
